• For months now, I’ve been pretending to have a job. My parents think I work at a fancy office in Accra, but the truth is, I lost my job last year and haven’t been able to find another one. Every morning, I wake up, dress in office clothes, and leave the house like everything is normal. I usually spend the day at a cafe in the mall, applying for jobs online and praying something works out. It’s getting harder to keep up the act. My mum keeps asking when she can visit my office, and my dad keeps pressuring me to help with more household expenses. Sometimes I sit in the café and wonder how I got here. I hate lying to my parents, but I know they’ll be disappointed if they find out. I’m doing everything I can to get back on my feet, but until then, I’ll just have to keep up the façade.
